King Yasovarmamn I (889-900) began work on the original temple of Preah Vihear, dedicated to Shiva. There was much re-modeling under King Suryavarman II (1113 – 1150).
Whilst International Law recognises that Preah Vihear is Cambodian, it is an area disputed with Thailand - with occasional skirmishes.
